My “soap story” started about 10 years ago. In theory, it started much earlier, but the path from learning to the creation of a final product was slow but sure.

Due to the excessive allergic reactions, I was forced to try to help myself by trying to make a washing/bathing product that does not contain any detergents. I was constantly given the creams and ointments based on corticosteroids from the doctor, which only masked the problem without solving it. It was a never-ending story that lasted for years. The soapmaking idea was growing for a long time, but the turning point was when my skin began to react to any detergent or daily care cosmetics (creams, lotions…).

Among many Internet articles, there is a great deal of misconceptions and untruths about how soap is made, as well as a whole cult about how soaps heal and how they work magic on your skin. I needed a lot of time, effort, and study on that topic, so for the same reason I turned to biochemists from the Faculty of Chemistry in Belgrade. That’s when I first contacted Professor Zoran Vujičić, Ph.D, the founder of the soap making school within the faculty. At the same time, I studied (and I have still been doing that) the papers of Master of Pharmacy and Medical Biochemistry Engineer Stribor Marković, Bsc. I owe a debt of gratitude to them for most of useful information I got and later put into practice.

What makes my soap different from other artisanal soaps on the market? In 99% of cases, small businesses dealing with handmade cosmetics are labeled as natural. If we are talking specifically about soaps – that is not true. Natural soaps are found in plants and in a chemical sense they are not soaps. For example, sweet chestnut contains saponin, so when we cut it a little with a knife and put it in hot water, we will notice presence of foam when water is mixed. So, natural soaps foam, you can wash with them, they are natural, but they are not soaps. Thus, we either have natural detergents or artificial soaps. That’s why there are no bio, natural, medicinal, herbal, etc. soaps. Call a spade a spade – artisanal, handmade soap, made from natural ingredients. Natural, biological, or whatever ingredients started a chemical reaction the moment they were combined with NaOH. And they stopped being natural. That’s a huge manipulation and a pack of lies ‘’served’’ to customers.

Homemade, handmade soaps are much more pleasant to our skin than the factory ones, because handmade soaps create foam thanks to a combination of high-quality oils, and not because of chemical ingredients (detergents) that industrial soaps contain. All industrial soaps do not contain glycerin, unlike domestic soaps, because it is extracted from them to be used later in other cosmetic products. While using homemade soaps you can forget about dry and flaky skin.

To be honest, many producers involved in environmental protection sell BIO and ECO products on the market for a lot of money, explaining to their target groups that organic ingredients cost more, and therefore a final product has a high price. If an ingredient is organic, it means that it was not treated with any chemical means, but it was grown in conditions that did not require additional investments in pesticides, herbicides, etc. This means that the final product should be cheaper because it is invested less, right? The Japanese have been using soap for washing which is made from waste cooking oil. This is how, my dear customers, the environment is protected. Japanese apartments are connected to a deionized water system. (The bigger the system, the lower the price per apartment).

To make a long story short, the story which cannot be summarized on one piece of paper. The soaps I make are artisanal, handmade from natural vegetable oils in combination with essential and fragrance oils and mineral pigments. They do not pollute the environment; they are gentle for the skin and do not dry it out. Soaps do not heal, soaps wash. Their advantage is that they are not aggressive – when using it daily, the skin becomes soft and moisturized. The soap does not contain detergents, surfactants, and humectants. What is offered to consumers together with our soaps is healthy splashing and quality skincare, as well as demystification of the composition and production of homemade and handmade soaps. An excellent gift for your soul and body, both for yourself and for dear people around you (family, friends…).
